Immediately following astronaut Rachel Moore’s mind-blowing experience on a 2005 space shuttle flight, NASA publicly reports the epiphany-like comment Rachel made while in space was merely a mistaken reaction to electromagnetic light traces. After being subjected to extensive scrutiny from both NASA and the public, Rachel retreats to a New Hampshire lake where she transfers her experience to canvas and oil. Hidden in her paintings is the secret to her experience in space, while hidden in her ordinary life is the extraordinary fact that she can see thought patterns, manipulate matter with her mind, and heal others with a casual afterthought. |
Rachel returns to NASA as part of a publicity campaign surrounding the next generation of human space flight. She returns especially curious about the contents of a computer file belonging to her former fiancé Jonathan Miller, and of speculation made public by ambitious NASA neuro-biologist Brett McCarthy that her experience in space may have been a hallucination.
But when results of Rachel’s physical reveal the miraculous - that she has stopped aging – Brett McCarthy is now assigned to uncover the cause. While Rachel and Brett ride the wave of their mutual attraction, Brett is enticed by biotech mogul (and Jonathan’s ex-wife) Diana York for, as the scientist who made the discovery, Brett McCarthy holds the legal rights to the fountain of youth.

Using sophisticated technology, Jonathan tries to court Rachel with his secrets while Diana attempts to steal Brett and his discovery away from NASA. In a race against time, all four converge at a nighttime launch. As the rocket lifts off, shots are fired, truth is revealed, and Brett McCarthy takes a quantum leap as an integral player in a phenomenal materialization that rattles him, NASA and a centuries old scientific paradigm.
Rachel
Rachel Moore is the ideal I’d like to live up to – a woman with a powerful mind who is a pioneer, a scientist, an artist, and somewhat of a mystic. When I conceived this story, I named the lead character after my teenage daughter. Years later, Rachel, my daughter, completed a Ph.D in molecular biology from Brown University with anti-aging as the theme of her doctoral thesis. Her choice of study was, of course, not caused by my story or vice versa, and yet this is a real life example of the kind of acausal experiences portrayed in WE ARE STARDUST, as well as the kind of jaw-dropping wonder I hope the story will inspire. - Deb Whitaker |
In 1974, when I was 18 years old, a neuroscience oriented Psychology professor known for never giving out A’s, gave my final paper, “The Biological/Physiological Side of Extra Sensory Perception” a B+.
Responding to my conclusion “I agree with many parapsychologists that it is time to stop trying to prove there is ESP, and start experimenting extensively with ESP itself,” he posed a question that, looking back, would turn out to be a lifetime challenge: “But how would you deal with this question? Where would you go?” Read More.... |
