Excerpt from Afterword: Bathology Guided Visualization

Remember Lather, Rinse, Repeat?
Recent neuroscience research suggests we can revitalize our brains as we do our skin and hair. It's kind of like lather, rinse, repeat, with an emphasis on the repeat.  Scientists have shown that with only a few minutes a day of the right kind of repetitious behavior, we can improve our resilience, well-being, and overall vitality.

This takes mindfully and regularly directing our attention on positive thoughts, and then savoring them until they soak into our long-term memories.   Story initiates the process, assisted by a guided visualization.  Neuroscience studies also tell us that when reading a story, different brain regions collaborate to create an experience that is much like imagining a real life, vivid event.  We more easily absorb a story's message than we do information.

In other words, it's kind of like savor, soak, repeat. Where better to savor and soak than the tub?

In the tub, we have a moment alone. A daily routine. In the tub we can savor and soak with a bar of soap in our hands, a guided visualization in our ears, and an inspiring story in our hearts. In the bath we have a chance to cleanse our minds while cleansing our bodies. Here we may move from a negative to a positive state; a state of worry to a state of wonder.

There is no top-secret formula, no overly complicated process, just a fun and innovative approach we lightheartedly call Bathology.

Sample Cartoon Mentor Quotes

Mzzz Pink: It’s the Dance!
"Ever wonder what a different world it would be if everyone's operating system was set on joy, not fear? All of us have truly remarkable gifts within us for the world to see, if only we would step on the dance floor of life and dance!"

Uno: Everything is Imagination!
“Humans sometimes use a phrase that I don’t understand. I hear them say “it’s just your imagination”, as if there is no power in imagination. What a funny thing to say! Everything is imagination! Imagination is where we find our power.”

Miss Guided Light: Someday is Today
“In our humdrum world, so many have lost magic and meaning. Happiness is over there and someday never comes. Many search the world over to fill this void. Most never find it. The peace of mind they crave comes only when they realize someday is today.”

Each Bathology mp3 includes a voiceover
set to the sound of waves, a splash, and Morning Mood (by Edvard Grieg).
The voiceover includes a Sioux Indian Prayer (Author Unknown),
Bathology directions, and a Splash City Cartoon Mentor quote.

- Excerpt from a Sioux Indian Prayer
“We cannot create world peace if we are riddled with inner conflict, hatred, doubt, or anger.
We radiate the feelings  and thoughts that we hold inside whether we speak them or not.
Whatever is splashing around inside of us is spilling out into the world
creating beauty or discord with all other circles of life.
Remember the eternal wisdom: whatever you focus on, expands.”

Excerpt from Bathology Directions:
“Float back to the part of the fable you most identify with, that fills you with color and wonder.
Allow your state of wonder to splash you with renewed and joyful, vibrant images
of your favorite part of the story. Watch these images play in your mind
like one of your favorite movies. Savor them…”
